How many of you used to count coaster credits and then stopped? If so, at what point did you stop? I’m approaching 500 this year, and was thinking after that, it gets too be a little too much (plus it’s diffcult to get a lot of credits, taken me nearly 10 years to go from 400 to 500).

Also, for fun, when did you *start* counting? For me, I first made a count when I happened to be at 40.

I started counting in 2003, at the time I was already over 100, right now I'm just over 980 and should hit 1,000 in July. I used to think counting was dumb, I wish I still did... haha, also looking back I think of all the kiddie rides I skipped that I wish I hadn't, oh well.
As far as stopping now, I'll be happy to hit 1,000 and maybe won't care about going -out of the way- for single kiddie coasters after that.. Although if I'm in the area I don't see myself *not* going after one or two.

All of this applies to me. Thought it was dumb, then started, now regret
missing kiddie coasters... yep! I was in the 100+ range when I started and
that motivated me to get to 200. I'm now at 250 exactly. I even had my 200
and 250 published in the ACE newsletter. And yeah, I now ride all kinds of
silly coasters I didn't used to. I don't really regret it though!

Stopped counting long ago when 2 things happened:

1) My record of coasters no longer in operation became too depressing when I added new coasters that didn't live up to those remembered in the past (long live the Racing Whippet).

2) It started to seem like a contest that I had to work at doing rather than being a fun hobby.

It also helped that whatever the online program was that I used when defunct and the count vanished overnight.

I also stopped rating them although I have a #1 wood and a #1 steel.

The count that matters is what are you riding today, and the rating matters that you enjoyed riding it. If not, go do something else.

I never counted. The bucket list started from reading the GTA top 50 steel, and wanting to go on all those coasters in the USA. I had been on many, but wanted to complete that list. I made the web page to track my results and add more coasters. This turned into a top steel list for the USA, I have 89.

I've completed the bucket list in 2015, 2016, and 2017. It was great accomplishing my goal, but no one else cares. It only means something to you. There's no award or trophy for achieving your goal of a count or bucket list. People will take a picture holding up a sign that says 500, and you know what? No one cares. Currently I need 6 coasters and I'll eventually get them, but there's no rush. I'll go once the rides are running consistently (Steel Vengeance).

I visit parks going on the best rides, and don't worry about kiddie or old school stuff I don't enjoy. Some of the kiddie rides actually have long lines. I remember visiting California Great America, and the mouse ride in the back of the park had an hour wait. If I was doing a count, I'd have to wait in that line. Bur I didn't, I walked past it. Same for the old school coasters, they were not running and I kept walking. Now if I was doing a count, I would have been freaking out about an old ride that was down, and waiting in a long kiddie line.

Honestly, despite having a count, I don’t always do every coaster just for the count. I will try to get each one if time allows, but I’m not going to waste my time on a true credit coaster when I could better enjoy the park and other offerings. Also won’t waste money on a ticket just for a ride for a credit (for parks without POP). I do regret that sometimes when I’m close to a milestone that I might’ve already achieved had I done everything possible I’ve encountered. But I’d regret it more if I wasted time on a credit coaster vs riding the rides that I truly enjoy.
So while I do count for fun, it’s not my biggest priority.

I had a period of a few years in the mid 00s where I stopped counting or at least counting consistently, but eventually went back to it. I wouldn't be able to remember a lot of the stuff I've been on without having it - I'm just opting to not be a slave to it in terms of how and when I plan trips.

This may shock some people, but I've mostly stopped. Technically, I
haven't, but I haven't actually updated my list since my big Asia trip in
2012. I hit 1000 on that trip. And frankly, I'm probably not going to hit
2000, and likely won't hit 1500. I've hit the milestone I wanted. I'm not
likely to hit others. Getting excited about 1100 or 1200 is just silly.
So, really, what's the point?

One of these days, I'll probably get around to updating my list. I'm
probably somewhere approaching 1100. But does it really matter?

I've also really backed away from this hobby for a variety of reasons. I'm
still interested, but I haven't taken a coaster trip in a few years,
although I'm sure I will at some point in the next few years. But nowhere
I'm intending to go will likely net me more than a dozen or so coasters.
I'm more interested in revisiting places I've really enjoyed and riding
some of the top newer coasters I've missed. (Hell, there are THREE
coasters at Cedar Point I haven't ridden!) So, counting isn't really a
priority.

Yes, this really is me writing this! My account wasn't hacked! ;-)
I've just gotten a bit of perspective in my middle age.
That sounds depressing! ;-)
