The latest RMC conversion is the former Twisted Sisters/Twins to "Storm Chaser" at Kentucky Kingdom. It appears to be a single track coaster. It opens in 2016.

Man oh man this looks SICK. In fact, this almost looks like my favorite RMC layout to date. It looks to me like the first RMC coaster with a decently-sized non-wonky El Toro-style camel back hill, right at the beginning, which is my favorite way to start a ride. Also, the perfect airtime finale, ending with the outward-banked hill which was my favorite element on Lightning Run. Also, I love how the far turnaround is symmetrical and goes so low to the ground, rather than yet another overbank or high-off-the-ground turn like on Goliath.

The only negative thing I can possibly think of is that it might end up being a very similar experience to Lightning Run except better. But it's at the back of the park, so at least most people will ride Lightning Run first.

Shame they couldn't get a better computer to make the video on. The resolution is one thing but the frame rate is really unfortunate.

There's really no reason it should have been done so piss-poorly. No Limits 2 has built-in video exporting ability (Which can export video at any resolution or framerate, regardless of your specs), and any reasonable modern computer can do video editing these days. You don't need a powerhouse of a computer, especially for such a short video.

Really is disappointing that they would release something such low quality. Really terrible marketing right there.

They seem to say "double up" when they mean "double down".

After riding 4 of these and viewing the latest POVs, these rides seem to be more about inversions that drop (meaning hang the coaster upside down and drop it), bucking bronco type turns, and smooth ejector air.

The ejector bunny hops at the end of Lightning Run are too intense, same thing on ROS at Darien Lake, which is why the dude with no legs fell from the ride. Ejector air is great but it can be over done.

The ejector hills that Alan designs seem to be a cross between long floater hills and short bunny hops. The 2nd hill on Storm Chaser is a floater hill.

Agree, the Double Up seems to be more of an ejector hill leading to a double down. We're going to have to come up with new names for these elements or people will be confused. That's great they mentioned the element names in the POV, but those terms are kinda long.

The only bummer I see is the track length at 2744 feet. I wish it was a longer ride, but it was probably a ton of money for the track and the space provided. I get off the ride and want more. Yes, I know, go again, but it's not the same thing. At least it has no block brake or trim brakes. It's basically a bucking bronco the entire ride. Storm Chaser is the same kind of idea and the name fits perfectly for Kentucky.

Finally got to ride this today. I thought it was a great mix of pacing, different elements, and not *too* intense (as I feel Lightning Rod at Dollywood is). This coaster seemed just right. Love the inversion on the first drop. Ride is very comfortable and smooth. It does have a kind of odd slow down element as it passes under the last crossover. But it’s all around good. Better than the other RMCs I’ve been to (Lightning Rod and wicked Cyclone). It’s interesting that the other side of Twisted Sisters (hey, that’s what it was called when I rode it) is used as the transfer track and that the station gates and entrance stairs are still there. Rerides in empty rows allowed when not too busy was nice (at all the coasters).

I rode in May, it was ok but not near my favorite RMC. Since then I have also ridden Twisted Colossus. Right now here are my RMC Steel coaster rankings:

1. Iron Rattler (overall a great ride, good drops and decent intensity)
2. Twisted Colossus (Long and really fun, almost as good as IR, tough call)
3. Wicked Cyclone (vERY intense and amazing twisted layout)
4 New Texas Giant (too gentle for my tastes, but big ride with good layout)
5. Twisted Cyclone (more intense to NTG, but shorter and not as interesting)
6. Storm Chaser (Not a fan of twisting drop, but more interesting layout then TT below)
7. Twisted Timbers (Overall the weakest IMHO, layout is uninspiring and I don't like the twisted drop, staight drops are better IMHO)

YMMV,
Ted

Interesting bump, my last post in this thread was from 2015. I had only been on 4. Now I have been on 10 RMCs in the USA and I have 4 more to go.

02. New Texas Giant (SFoT)
04. Twisted Colossus (SFMM)
13. Goliath (SFGAm)
17. Iron Rattler (SFFT)
22. Outlaw Run (SDC)
26. Lightning Rod (DW)
35. Storm Chaser (KK)
43. The Joker (SFDK)
47. Twisted Cyclone (SFoG)
51. Wicked Cyclone (SFNE)
* Steel Vengeance (CP)
* Twisted Timbers (KD)
* Jersey Devil Coaster (SFNJ)
* Iron Gwazi (BGT)

NTG and Steel Vengeance both have what I call a triangle shape, full length rides. I always had NTG as my #1 RMC before the Steel Vengeance conversion. Why? It's a full length ride with a neat ending going through the tunnels. I'd have to go on it again which I'm going to try to do in 2020. Then I can try to get my ride on SV and Iron Gwazi.

Haven't been on SV yet, but it will be a battle between SV and Iron Gwazi for the new #1 top RMC spot. I like full length rides and the versions that go over 55 mph. The versions that are short and go 55mph or slower are at the bottom of my list. There's nothing wrong with that, it just means I like the other rides better.

So that's the current USA list for RMC, 14 coasters, plus 2 raptors which are not on my list at this time because I'm not sure about them, so short and I haven't been on any yet. But that will change when I go to Texas in 2020 to visit SFFT, SFoT, and SWSA.
