Pretty harsh article about Kennywood, specifically this year, for the most part. Haven’t been to KW for a few years now (travels haven’t taken me there, I do love the park though). Anyone who visited this year have any thoughts? Some of these points sound somewhat typical (especially end of summer staffing issues). A lot of these do sound like real problems that should be addressed. This article doesn’t mention weather at all, but it did also seem like (based on their Facebook page announcements) the park closed early for weather a lot more than I’d think they would. A lot of the comments on their fb page those days complained that they were in the parks and the rain was light or quick and the park closed as the weather cleared up.

I have been there twice and had good experiences both times. I did notice a lot of stuff closed the last time I went and I must admit, i was not particularly happy about that. It was mostly stores, games, and eating establishments.

The last time I visited was a Friday June 20th, 2014. I got there before the park opened and waited at the front of the gate. They open at 10:30 with rides starting at 11am. That's such a late start.

The crowd was let it, quickly walked to Phantom's revenge only to be told it wouldn't open for 30 minutes. Auuuuugh. I decided to stay there because the line was getting long. 30 minutes later we went in. At first I was going to wait for the front row, but then decided to go on the 1st train out in row 2. Good thing I did. Great ride, but then guess what? There was something wrong with the last car, so they closed the ride and it didn't open for the entire time I was there. And they were only running 1 train, for their star ride.

I went on Exterminator, ate the fries at the potato patch, went on a few more rides, and left. The impression I got was similar to the article, they just don't care. Because of this visit I moved Phantom's Revenge out of my top 10 in my rankings based on the over all experience at the park.

I didn't think the article was harsh, I thought it was pretty fair to Kennywood.

They have only been running one train on Thundebolt when I have been there this year. I waited over an hour one day as a result.

We were there on July 31 and did not experience the issues in the article. The only things down when we were there were Sky Rocket and Ghostwood Estates. There were a few games that were shut down, but all the food places were open. Crowds were light but good.

Frankly, the article sounds like "send junior reporter out to find something to write about." Of all the issues, only the problems with Thomas sounded unique - all parks are struggling with staffing issues now that schools are heading back earlier, lots of stuff is going to get disrupted with new construction, and lots of stuff is going to get disrupted by prep for Halloween events.
