“Hybrid” term
(too old to reply)

Anyone else think this term is useless? To me, a coaster qualifies as only wood or steel (or concrete, in one case). Marketing coasters as hybrids really shouldn’t be a thing.

Its all for marketing, but I do agree its a pretty useless term.

GEMINI, OHIO's ONLY RACING HYBRID , SILVER COMET, NEW YORK's NEWEST HYBRID COASTER!, see, nobody cares, even if its true.

Yeah I know it’s really just for marketing. But now I hear gp and even Coaster fans referring to it as legit things.

...or plastic...

It’s meaningless. The only time I think it might even be reasonable to
consider it is something like Colossus or Tremors where an otherwise wood
coaster has some steel track on it.

Gemini, Zeus, Hoosier Hurricane, Cedar Creek Mine Ride, The Voyage,
Cyclone, Silver Comet...nobody refers to any of those as “hybrids”. But
suddenly the exact same configuration has to be called out just because
steel coasters are using square track? As if Miler hasn’t been doing that
for years?

You have traditional 'wood' coasters that ride on metal wheels and then you have everything else that put "tires" made of plastic or rubber around those wheelss for a softer ride.
