Just thought I wouild come here and at least mention the KIga announced
last night. It is kind of refreshing to come into a coaster discussion and
not see a bunch of fanboys whining about it not breaking any records and
how they;ll never get a ride at Kings Island that is at least fifty feet
taller than anything at Cedar Point... 8-)

Personally, I think it looks like a neat ride, and I will probably like
it a lot. but from the animations I suspect I will like Diamondback more,
in much the same way I think Int[r]imidator is better than Fury 325; and
Mystic Timbers will still be better than either one.

And Diamondback is no Magnum; Mystic Timbers has got nothing on the Voyage.

It’ll be a nice addition. I like Kings Island a lot, but unfortunately only get to go every few years, with this year being one of those years. I may push my next trip ahead now with this (though I’ll probably still go to Kennywood next year as my out of area trip). Probably the year after though. I just hope this doesn’t make lines for Flight Of Fear insane, as I’m a big fan of that ride.

It does seem strange that KI is getting yet another great coaster while other Cedar Fair parks like Dorney are way beyond due for a major non water park addition. It almost seems like Cedar fair wants to make most of their parks water parks. Only problem is I fear some may go the way of Geuaga Lake and the dry side closing only to followed a few years later by the water park then also closing.

I am really excited about Orion. It looks like a really fun ride. Sad to see all the complaints on social media from people who are disappointed that it isn’t going to break any records.

Interesting fact that has been mentioned: this ride will cost approximately the same price as was paid for the entire park back in 1972.

I grew up in Ohio, between Cedar Point and King’s Island. My parents loved both places so we made multiple visits there each year. As an adult I visit CP much more often than KI but with Orion I’m sure I will be visiting there every year too.

I'd pay eighty bucks(incl parking!) just to ride ORION and
DIAMONDBACK all day.

What is the coaster in the background at 0:47?

I'm not looking at it, so I can't be sure...but Orion is going to be
"behind" (from the midway perspective) and more or less parallel to the
Racer. I think it's positioned in such a way that it won't interact or
interfere with Adventure Express. Best guess without digging up the clip is
that you're seeing the Racer.

At 0:47 you can see Racer (white woodie immediately next to Orion), Vortex, Diamondback, and the Flight of Fear building.

The tall hyper in the background is Diamondback.

I could care less if O-ramp-ion breaks any records or not. It just looks boring. The long ramp up to the top of the second hill means that any speed it gained from a 300' drop disappears. The train then wanders around a turnaround, floats over a speed-hill, crawls over an "airtime" hill and then bleeds off more speed up an ascending helix before hitting the 500' long brake run. The more I look at it, the more it looks like its TRYING to not go fast...a family giga...

There is potential there. Reprofile the second hill into something sane. Make the turn-around a true treble-clef. Keep the helix low to the ground to hold some speed. Add a 10-15' drop after the final rise into the break run to make it a bunny...

As-is, its a mild clone of DB. Waste of money.

Go ride it. The speed does not disappear. The first 3 hills are amazing. It's definitely not a "family giga".

The helix is fairly low to the ground and it holds speed through it. And every single one of the hills had air time, even in the front seat.

Not a mild clone, although they are very, very similar. Go ride it before you call it a waste of money :-)

After riding it....I was too easy on it.
Its HALF a clone of DB. Nice speed thru the first drop. The banking on the second hill actually wrecks any forces it might have had. A slow meander thru the turn-around. The profile on the speed hill is perfect for a Sunday drive, not even a float. Hard brakes at the top of the last hill reduce what is still a decent pop. The upward helix just bleeds speed and is totally forceless. The final bank to line up with the brake run has a nice lateral pop and then full-stop. Its funny, almost everything Orion does, Diamondback does twice and usually better.
Orion is fast....and then doesnt do anything with it.
OTOH, Diamondback should be renamed the Rattler...Spent my entire ride watching the bogey on the car ahead of me bounce and feeling the bogey on mine do the same.
Maybe KI could swap trains, the rattle would give Orion some character and Diamondback could use the smoothness.
