Another reason *I've been given* is balance issues. They said that the weight ratio of ride to riders is relatively low on portables such as Zipper or Rock O Plane(btw my personal fave noncoaster!).

That, and the usual CT state statute mandating no single riders on portable show equipmt.

Seriously! It happens here on Usenet and on private(membership) forums.

A thread sees daily activity until I chime in, and then either 1. a day or two passes by with one or more comment, or 2. No further activity at all!

Do I seriously have a 'vibe' issue?

The thread is 13 years old today. Lee Schultz' crewcut is probably greyed out, Mike Overell (I think) still owes a couple of people still lurking money, and Mamoosh passed away in 2011. If there isn't any additional activity following the crazy person's bump, I don't think it is your fault.

No Single Riders is evil and cruel. America is a toxic, soulless, socially disconnected culture. Many people have no friends in America. The entire social atmosphere is confined to closed cliques. Going out alone gets you labeled a loser by everyone and you stay alone. I personally have gone as a single rider on the Zipper and can tell from personal experience that a single rider taller than 60 inches can never turn sideways inside the gondolas and slip out from under the lap bar.

I had a rare chance to ride a Hi-Roller recently (it was like 2 miles from where I was at a traveling fair), but I didn’t go because no single riders. I’m not sharing a confined space like that with some stranger.

Anyone know if this open Zipper seat design ever got further than this "Preliminary Concept Art for NEW ZIPPER SEAT" video? "Chance Rides Manufacturing Inc." posted it in 2015.

They had an open front Zipper car at the Florida State Fair either this year or last. I forget what year but I did ride it. It had the over the shoulder restraint cars.... but still had a no single rider rule.

Clearly, No Single Riders IS NOT about safety at all. There are rumors going around of Zipper ride operators using deadly force on single riders at a growing number of carnivals and fairs across the country, their actions being supported and condoned by Chance Rides, Inc. It's no wonder no Zipper ever bothers to set up what are called Single Rider Lines, like they have at Disney World (Orlando, Fl) and Universal Orlando.

All well taken and valid points.

But the elephant in the room, the biggest
reason for 'No Single Riders' at portable
shows and some fixed rides, is

MONEY.

More riders, more revenue! Pretty simple
model.

In my case, they lost out on a ride ticket. It’s not like the Hi-Roller gets long lines. I don’t mind sharing a row with another single on certain rides, but something like the Hi-Roller or even the Zipper is too close for a stranger.

The Zipper was not always No Single Riders. Even after those bozos at Chance Rides made up that heinous lie that even adult single riders would turn sideways inside the gondolas and slip out from under the lap bar, up until 2005, the decision to enforce "No Single Riders" was left to individual ride operators. But in 2006 and 2007, T.H.E. Insurance and Allied Specialty Insurance, both of which sell insurance to carnival midways, started cracking down on their own accord and ordering "No Single Riders" enforced like FBI and Homeland Security law. And no Zipper in the United States has allowed single riders on since 2008.
