Post by s***@aol.comIf a coaster designer from 100 years ago stepped into present day, what would they think of coasters today and what do you think would be the most difficult thing for them to understand about the industry today?
They would be amazed at the Cad/Cam programs which can show the exact forces on a rider. In and interview after one of his coasters opened, Alan Schilke said the ride was exactly like he designed.
In reality, you could ask Alan what he did in the past, because he was designing coasters back in the day.
This is why I no longer care about the old skool rides from 40 years ago, they're not fun (Arrows, SLCs, Vekomas).
What would be most difficult about today? The suits wanting a small footprint ride to reduce costs. I'm sure Alan has some great designs, but they are chopped in half because of the suits.
The example I think of the most would be airline travel. Imagine if you brought the Wright Brothers back today, and said, "Here is a jet engine." Or took them to Kennedy and said, "Here is a space shuttle." Their mind would be blown. It would be like the movie, "Back to the Future."
This video comes to mind when thinking of the future.
